I was using nursery rhymes that I liked as a springboard for my paintings, and I came across a riddle whose answer was "an egg". The last line went something like- "Though there are no doors to this stronghold, thieves break in and steal the gold". Besides that I am a chronic collector of eggshells, nests, birdskulls, other animal bones- so I made a little theatrical presentation with my oddments- threw in my wedding ring- and I had a nifty little still life that evoked breaking eggs and stealing gold.
