Anatomy School

I've built up the background with a lot of dark colors. Raw umber. I have a big tube of raw umber and I don't know why because I never use it. I probably got it thinking it was burnt umber, but I mixed it with some hookers green and black and burnt sienna and burnt umber and it's okay. Then there's some red and ocher in there. It's a hash, but that's okay. I like to layer up colors in the dark areas. I've started this leftmost doctor's portrait, but until I get enough layers built up, I think it's too flattish. I don't like the way the first layers of paint sit on the paper. I like it when they build up and get some transparency.
