The Rabbit Maid

Folk tale inspired illustration. A painting of a young maid in winter tending to two enormous rabbits.  I believe the idea came upon me while I was reading a  Norwegian folk tale called Osborn's Pipe about a poor boy tending the king's hares, and playing music for them a la the Pied Piper of Hamelin. I wondered how the king's hares would be better than other hares, then I figured they would be bigger. Like these. I felt it would be prettier to have a rabbit maid than a rabbit wrangler, and I wanted to do a winter scene. So I am.
