Cottage Maids in an Autumn Garden

 

   A little bit inspired by this story I read about an attempted murder in Kirkdale by a strychnine poisoned teapot, where a young woman was victimized by her mother and aunt for refusing to go into the oldest profession, maybe. It's a theory.

Meh. I think my cottage maids are looking a little too benign and ordinary and sad. I will have to spruce them up.

I wanted to make a painting that was outdoors, but had all the claustrophobia of a dark basement. This cottage garden with the presence of two strange women in long black dresses will do.
