The Cottage Garden Embroidery
Two embracing friends on this folky stumpwork embroidery experiment. I like their little fringes of bullion knot hair.

Cottage Embroidery
This is my first try at stumpwork. I've made tiny little stuffed muslin shapes of birds and sewn them down onto the fabric ground. I'm embroidering over them with chain stitches. It makes the shapes stand up and gives it a three dimensional effect.
This one is not finished but you can see some finished Hand Embroidery at My Good Babushka. Hand Embroidery, Painting, Chainmaille Jewelry

The Cottage Garden
I found an antique photograph at the Portersville Steam Tractor Show this summer. It was of two sisters from the early twentieth century in long dresses, standing in a very spare yard or garden. Then I found a picture of a cottage garden that I found memorable for it's very claustrophobic sort of landscaping. I decided to combine the two elements to make an outdoor garden scene that was somehow very closed and claustrophobic and a bit creepy. Here is my first day at it.
