Mad Alice in the Snickelway

There is a narrow alley in York, and narrow alleys in York are called snickelways, that is called Mad Alice Lane. So named after a famous mad woman who was hanged in 1823. She murdered her husband.
This is my second take on the theme.

Mad Alice in the Snickelway

I know I've done it before, but I thought I would do it again. There is a narrow alley in York, and narrow alleys in York are called snickelways, that is called Mad Alice Lane. So named after a famous mad woman who was hanged in 1823. At first, I thought she was hanged for being mentally ill, but it is purported that she poisoned her husband. Maybe it was the murder that drove her mad? I hope so. Anyway, this is my second take on the subject with a similar composition to the first. So nice, I'll do it twice.

I was reading about the Snickelway of York called Mad Alice Lane. A woman resided there who was mad, and she was later hanged.  I am painting my version of her here.

I was reading about the Snickelway of York called Mad Alice Lane. A woman resided there who was hanged for her madness. That hardly seems fair, but such was the custom at the time.
I thought she deserved a nice painting. Poor Mad Alice. I've given her some rat companions.

When I was reading about the Snickelways of York, I learned about Mad Alice Lane. Poor Mad Alice. It said she was hung for being mentally ill.
