Mayfly

Mayfly is my latest work in progress inspired by fairy tale illustrations and Russian lacquer paintings, among other things. I've chosen to do something different and paint on an all black background. It does look dramatic. I'm afraid when I glaze it, though, it will get so reflective that it will be hard to scan or photograph.

On a different tack. I found a sketch I like in my doodlebook. I painted a canvas entirely black and sketched out the picture. I've been thinking more of folk art, medieval art, Russian lacquered miniatures, so I'm going to let those inspirations guide me.
