After the last painting was so sad, I felt I should paint something that made me feel good.  Is there a warmer feeling than having a fresh cup of coffee poured for you in a sweet little kitchen? I submit there is not.

The Cleveland Banquet, work in progress by Julie Kwiatkowski Schuler.
It feels nice to slow down, and sink into a little group portrait like this. I can go table to table and see their faces. I can almost smell the perfume in their wool coats and hear that rolling wave of blended voices. They felt happy and elegant, or sad and anxious, but they smiled anyway. They were us before we got here. We are us, but we’re just leaving.

Painting inspired by a vintage photograph, circa late 50s, early 60s, of a banquet, attended mostly by ladies, in Cleveland. I'm guessing it's a spring event because of the hats! I've chosen a blue and red palette .
