Blue Forest

Layering in some trees shapes. Giving it a very smoky, foggy look. I feel like my days of working on the porch are drawing to a close. I'm sad that summer's over, but I'm looking forward to good things like hot soup and pumpkin pies and wearing babushkas tied under my chin. There are no end to the delights in the world. Keep it a full and merry place by surprising someone with a kindness or good word today. Try it, you'll like it.

Swing

A few of the last progress pics I posted against the finished painting. A psychological surreal portrait of a lone child on a backyard swing. Suspended over giant clover flowers. The imagination aroused by the sound of a mourning dove and shadows closing in on a sunny playground. Original acrylic painting by Julie Kwiatkowski Schuler. 12" x 24" x 3/4". The Summer Swing 1975

Picture in progress of my parents sitting on a swing behind my grandmother's (my mom's mom) house. I like the little vintage car on the street behind, and the subdued, humid, hazy greens in the picture. It's the kind of summer you have to wring out. I was mostly working on the background so far.

Kennywood Pictures

Kennywood is our favorite amusement park. When we were growing up, if someone said "Kennywood is open" it meant your zipper was down.

I did this portrait of my son from a picture taken when he was two. I really like doing children's portraits. I'm giving this to my son, for him to keep. He liked it when I showed it to him, he said it made him feel like summer time!

I can't believe he's six years old today! I love you, Matty baby!
