Berries and Cream Still Life
I've worked today on this brassy ornament on the wall behind, and some of the blackberries in the blue cut glass bowl, also the berries and cream atop the blackberry roly-poly or tart.
You can take the cheaters shortcut and find out about the finished Berries and Cream Painting at My Good Babushka. But I hope you will come back to follow the progress of this tasty still life.

Berries and Cream Still Life in Progress
Working on getting the wood grain in the background right. It's very rough and rustic. It goes well with this crackle-glazed pitcher of cream.
You can see the completed Berries and Cream, if you want to cheat and skip ahead. It is one of the paintings available at My Good Babushka. Fine Art, Jewelry. Needlework.

Coffee Break
Cute painting of a happy coffee pot dousing some equally happy cups with some of that fine, life-giving elixir, or I guess you could pretend it's tea.
You can see the finished painting here at My Good Babushka.

Minestrone Still Life
With what we know today about food photography, I have to wonder how much of the food in the original photograph was real. Though I like the pictures very much, cookbook photography often looks a bit surreal and not quite appetizing. Maybe it's just me.
You can see more of this finished painting and decide for yourself at My Good Babushka!

Veggies: the Painting

I didn't take a picture of an important step because my camera was on the blink, but I'll tell you- I blocked in complementary colors under each of the vegetables- I painted the carrots blue, the tomatoes green, and the lettuce red. I don't know if it will come through in the end or not, but I'm trying to think about color and it's most effective use.

Paint Your Veggies!
I have always found cookbook photography interesting and strangely compelling, if not quite appetizing. Especially vintage cookbooks with their technicolor brightness. I decided to stop fighting the urge to paint my rendition of some of these beauties. I'm starting with the cover of the Good Housekeeping cookbook of vegetables, published in the 60s. I love this whole series, and I think I have all of them except the Cakes edition.
