Sweater Deja Vu

I know, I just made a brown cardigan, but I'm making another one. I think this one will have another color, too. Probably green.

Here I am almost done with the second sleeve.

I have sewn in the pockets, sewn down the pocket hems, knitted the collar together and marked the position for the buttons. Did I mention I hate the sewing part? I really do. I hate the sewing part.

Starting another sweater. Working up the back.

Green Ribbed Pullover

Since I have ample green yarn leftover, I am making another green sweater. This is a ladies small, close fitting ribbed sweater. The front and back look really narrow, but this is a pretty stretchy knit. I'm mixing it up a little with an ivory strip around the bottom of the sleeve which I tend to repeat in the collar. Stay tuned for more knitty knitty.

Green Cabled Cardigan is Finished!

Inspired by the classic cardigan patterns of the fifties and sixties, this is a stylish, traditional cabled cardigan to fit a 44"-46" chest. Hand knit in easy care worsted weight acrylic yarn so it can be machine washed and dried. 28" long from the top to the bottom hem, sleeves are also 28" long. Features include very nice cable pattern on the fronts, back and the side of each sleeve, two set-in front pockets 6" deep, and lovely new etched wooden buttons. Men's Green Cabled Cardigan

Almost finished! I'm just waiting for the buttons. I've ordered some really nice wooden buttons to finish this sweater. You can see that I've marked the position for the buttons. I've folded it over so you can see the pretty cable pattern is also on the back. This is a men's cardigan 42" across the chest.

Green Cabled Cardigan

I've finished the fronts and sewed them to the back. As you can see, there is no button band! The pattern has me knitting it separately and sewing it in place. Yuck! Next time, I will knit it as part of the fronts. No need to add more sewing, that's the least fun part. I've also started a sleeve which will feature the same pretty cables.

Men's Green Cardigan

The fronts are sewn to the back, and the button placket band was worked separately and sewn on. I think I will rewrite the pattern so that the button placket is included during the knitting of the fronts, because I find a separate button placket hard to wrangle, and then there's the matching up of the button markers and buttonholes, and making the seam come together at the back of the neck... just, ugh. No thanks. The first picture is the first sleeve in progress. It also features that pretty cable pattern.

Blue Cardigan and New Artwork by Christy Spaulding Boyer

First I want to show off a new acquisition. This is a portrait of my boys done by Christy Spaulding Boyer. She's one of my very favorite artists, and I hope you click on her name and see more of her gorgeous artwork. I don't throw the word around a lot, but there is something spiritual, an abundance of vision, and of joy, and of a perfect stillness in the middle of spiraling, teeming, shimmering life in her work.

And now here is my boring, by comparison, blue sweater that is still needful of buttons.

Broken Rib Blue Cardigan

I've gone through some lengths to reformulate some vintage cardigan patterns to fit modern available yarns and have been really happy with the results. Now I'm taking the reformulated pattern and changing it again. This time I'm sizing it down for a woman's cardigan, reversing the buttonholes (yuck, I can never keep my lefts and rights straight as to which side gets the buttons) and adding a nice pattern, a very easy "broken rib" pattern, but I think it has a lot of visual interest and will make the sweater a little more curve-fitting for a woman. I haven't decided if I will add a shawl collar, also in pattern, or plain border band. But as you can see, I've only just cast on, so I have some time to decide. This is a very pretty deep blue heather. You'll see it's full, jewel tone flavor once I get going.

Baby Sweater

A little girl baby sweater in progress. Not for me! Thank goodness. My neighbor is expecting a great granddaughter this fall, so I'm making a present.

Catch-All

Some unrelated items to clean up the camera. I'm making an orange blanket for my youngest son. I've tried to talk him into having a different favorite color, but there you have it. He must have orange. When I visited my mother last month, she gave me a big bag of yarn. It will be a challenge to make something out of it. Just the kind of challenge I like. I have made a few shawl collar cardigans in adult sizes, so I think it will be a snap to make this pint size shawl collar cardigan with some leftover bramble heather yarn. I've renamed it "root beer heather" because I think it has more youth appeal. Last, a picture of my freshly painted living room. I love color, but I've been very timid about putting it on my walls. I have an assortment of paintings I'm going to hang soon, but here is how the living room looks, pre-art hanging. I love it. It's so golden and warm. I'm glad I took the plunge. That carpet, though. Yuck. It's gotta go.

Some Knitting and Embroidery

Here is my Hungarian inspired embroidery. I've repeated the same motif four times around. It's freehand, so it's not exact, but each one is similar enough. I don't want them to look mechanically made, anyhow. I've decided to add some birds and grapes to the middle. And down here is my shawl collar cardigan in evergreen. Sleeves and buttons coming soon!

On the Needles

Working on shawl collar cardigan. This doesn't really show the color very well. It is a deep green called "evergreen". This is the back and the front right in progress.
